The last year of formal Religious School is called Confirmation. At Beth Ahabah, Confirmation is part of the larger Midrasha Program. The curriculum combines elective and required courses. The required courses are taught by Rabbi Beifield, and the elective courses are taught by members of the Temple’s professional staff and, depending upon the elective, other teachers. The format allows the students to experience both a personal relationship with Rabbi Beifield and to learn from others.
Each year, Confirmands are honored, or confirmed, at a Shabbat service in May. Their photographs are placed in the hallway of the Religious School building alongside the Congregation’s previous Confirmation classes dating back to the early 20th century.
Confirmation students are encouraged to participate in the youth activities planned for Midrasha and JeRAFTY, our high school youth group. Each year there is a Confirmation trip designed to strengthen the students’ Jewish identity, their bond with each other, and their bond with the Congregation’s rabbis.
